10k hands finished on stars

September 29, 2008

So this is my first 10k hands on stars.  Im pretty happy with the start but still have plenty of things to work and try and improve on over the next 10k hands.  It’s a bit disappointing that its taken me all month to play this many hands but oh well, i’ll try and pick up the pace from here.

If i can keep my win rate at at least 4 then moving to stars has been worth giving up rakeback on FT.  With that said my FT account is a tad over $700 so in the future i’ll prob be playing on both sites anyhow.

Stars and FT update

September 20, 2008

I’ve played almost 9,000 hands on stars since i switched from FT.  I’m up just over $700 during that time and whilst that’s decent im really unhappy with some of the spots Ive been stacking off.  I think i could easily have saved myself 7 or 8 buy ins.  I’ve tilted at times and that’s really hurt my winrate and mood.   It also prevents me from putting in more hands which is definitely not good. Aside from that im extremely happy with how my game is coming along and Alex (my coach) is doing a great job.  I’m seriously considering blogging the majority of my sessions again to help me be more accountable and also it’s a great way of unintentionally reviewing my big hands, which i don’t do enough off.

You’ll remember im trying to rebuild a roll on Full Tilt after withdrawing all but $200.   I started playing $25nl but it was just too boring and i found it difficult to concentrate so i switched to 50nl.  I’m up to $500 after about 3k hands which is great news because i should easily be able to get a decent roll from here over the next few weeks.  Hopefully i haven’t just jinxed myself.  We shall see…

I’ve switched to stars

September 9, 2008

Not that long ago i felt like i reached a point in poker where i stopped learning.   I was still watching video’s and browsing forums but they weren’t really helping me identify my own leaks.  I remember right before i joined Cardrunners, i felt like id learnt as much as i could on my own.  Cardrunners opened my mind up to a whole new way of thinking about poker and it allowed me to grow and develop and ultimately become a winning player.

Well about 6 weeks ago i reached that point again.  That’s why i decided to get coaching lesson’s and it’s been one of my best moves in a long time.  To have someone ask you to explain why your doing certain things in a hand and then for them to give their advice is a real benefit for your game.  I’ve also had a couple of people sweat me over the last few weeks and not only can they see a big improvement in my game but they have also been the ones to helping.

So if you feel like your game is stale or your struggling to move up levels then believe me when i say it’s well worth branching out and having someone sweat you or even employ a coach.

Oh and i’ve switched my roll over to stars.  One of the main reasons is that there are better games running at night time when both stars and FT have minimal traffic.  Hopefully this offsets the fact that i now will have no rakeback.  I also left $250 on Full Tilt so i may even try to grind up a roll on FT when i’m finished my usual sessions on stars.

Blogging

May 28, 2008

Lately i’ve been thinking about blogging again.  There’s something about following other people’s blogs that makes me want to share my own success and failure’s.  There’s been a number of times where I’ve thought I’m the unluckiest player on the planet and it’s reading other blogs that helps put things into perspective.  They’ve really helped me get my head around some awful periods that are just a part of poker and I’ve now learned to accept it.

I my just update this blog periodically and if i do decide to blog regularly again i’ll either continue with this one or use the Cardrunners homesite.

I made my comeback in about January and played 50nl.  I’ve said it before, this is a great level.  The money is significant and the games are good enough to really enjoy the sessions and make some money.

March i moved back up to 100nl and it’s been going great.  The games play a lot more aggressive and the regs are slightly better but it’s been great for my game.  I had a my biggest downswing ever in April dropping 15 buyins.  I’d never seen such a horrible run of cards and beats in my whole life.  To be honest i never believed it was possible.  Anyhow after 4 or 5 days away from the game i was back on recouped the 15buys in 3 days which was pleasing.

I’ve just moved up to 200nl.  Whilst i’ve played about 10k hands at this level before way over a year ago it’s basically new territory for me.  I started off playing a tighter than normal game and found myself down 800 after the first 2 days.  I should have moved down but i had no problem with how i lost that money and was determined to keep playing as best i could and hoping variance would even itself out in the relatively short period of time.  Thankfully it did and now after 9k hands I’m +$1,300 at this level.  This is now the start I’ve been looking for.  I’m going to continue playing on the tighter side until I’ve fully adapted to the new bet sizing etc and am totally comfortable with interpreting what certain bet sizes likely mean.  FWIW I’ve always thought this has been one of my strengths.

Just finally it’s great running into players i used to play with at 50nl and 100nl.  There really are some outstanding players at 100 and 200nl.

I doubt anyone checks this blog anymore since i haven’t posted in so long but if you do feel free to leave a comment.

Haven’t been playing

October 1, 2007

I’m not going to post unless i’ve been playing.  At the moment i’m just never in the mood to play poker and just enjoying the break.

Lack of updates…

September 18, 2007

Due to me not playing at all. No motivation lately but i’ll have to start playing again at some stage this week.

Got tickets today for Port vs Kangaroo’s his Saturday night. Looking forward to it

Tuesday

September 11, 2007

Well i didn’t get to reach 20k hands over the weekend because Sunday (most profitable day) started off terrible and i became way to tilted to continue playing past a couple of hundred hands.  Monday’s haven’t been that great to me so i don’t bother playing unless i’m really motivated to play.

So below is where im at.  I had profited $1k at one point but failed to hold it there.  That’s cool, it’ll get back up there.

1,500 hands away from reaching 20k hands.  Update to follow soon,  hopefully today.

Went and watched Port vs West Coast last night in the AFL.  She was a heart stopper but thankfully Port got up in the end by 3 points.  Unlucky Craig.

Port have beaten West Coast 11 out of the last 13 times they have met.  Suprising!!!

Uhh so tired.  I’m gonna post results at each 10k hand interval with my stats.  I’m at 16k at the moment.  Win rate’s dropped just below 5.  I would really like to keep this above 5 if i can.

lol insta tilt

September 1, 2007

I’m doing ok at the tables today.  I’ve folded AA twice and AK on an A high flop once.  + 3 buy ins after 700ish hands.  Then this hand happens and puts me on insta tilt so i’m taking a break.  I may or may not play later.

At the time i’m like “Full Tilt… Fuck off.  The guy had no business in the hand.  I don’t give out the impression i play A10 like that.  Stop fucking with my head and river/turning the obvious”

A mate and i bought a boat for $200 yesterday.  It was a regrettfull sale typeof situation and definitely a bargain.  No engine but well source one soon.  Come’s with life jackets, ore’s, anchor and is in good condition.  Just needs a new coat which we can do easy.  I’ll take a few photo’s of it.
